About this tool
Background and methodology for the BMA Medical Schools Comparison Tool.
Purpose
The UK Medical Schools Comparison Tool was developed by the BMA Medical Students Committee (MSC) to provide a structured, data-driven overview of support structures across UK medical schools.
The tool is intended to help prospective and current medical students compare institutions on a number of practical factors that may affect their experience of studying medicine in the UK.
What is compared
The tool covers the following categories of data:
- International tuition fees — reported annual fees for international students across pre-clinical and clinical years
- Placement travel support — the systems used for reimbursing or funding travel to clinical placements
- Welfare and leave provisions — attendance requirements, flexibility provisions, and leave policies
- Resource provision — clinical equipment and learning resources provided to students
- Financial support — hardship funds, research grants, and elective-related funding
